Halil Tunc completes over 800 hours of service, personal development, and physical fitness to receive the U.S. Congress’s highest youth honor.
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Harmony Science Academy-Pflugerville announced today that student Halil Tunc has earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon young people by the United States Congress.
The Congressional Award is a non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive program that challenges youth to set meaningful goals, acquire new skills, serve their communities, improve physical fitness, and engage in immersive exploration.
Earning the Gold Medal requires a sustained commitment spanning at least 24 months and a minimum of 800 total activity hours across four core program areas:
- Voluntary Public Service: 400 hours
- Personal Development: 200 hours
- Physical Fitness: 200 hours
- Expedition/Exploration: A five-day, four-night expedition or exploration
"Halil’s accomplishment is an excellent example of what our students can achieve when they set ambitious goals and remain committed to them over the long term," said Ibrahim Erfidan, dean of college and career at Harmony Science Academy-Pflugerville.
