From Senator Donna Campbell
Last week I was blessed to join veterans from Rolling Thunder and members of VFW Post 7108 as they traveled to the Capitol to unveil a unique handmade chair intended to honor MIA service members and Prisoners of War.
The Chair of Honor is left vacant to represent a reserved seat in our Statehouse for the 82000 service men and women who have not yet returned home from active duty while serving our country. It serves as a somber reminder of all that our veterans sacrifice to protect our freedom and serve our great nation.

This is the first Chair of Honor to ever make an appearance at the Texas Capitol. The chair is unique in that it is made of solid oak and has a decorative peak inspired by the Alamo. It will be on display in the Capitol Extension through Monday October 17th. From there it will be moved to our Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee Office where it will remain through session to remind us of the important work we have to do as a committee for our veterans.
There is no more honorable profession and no greater cause of valor than to be called a veteran. We must always honor and remember the sacrifices of those who were prisoners of war or who remain missing in action. They and their families have carried a burden few of us can ever truly comprehend.
It is a privilege to serve as the Chair of the Veteran Affairs Committee and to have the opportunity to sponsor the display of this chair in our Capitol. I cannot thank the members of VFW Post 7108 in San Antonio enough for their service dedication craftsmanship and hard work.
I hope you and your family will take time to view the Chair of Honor in our committee room the next time you visit Austin.
