Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Yesterday U.S. Representative Will Hurd voted to support the
Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 commonly known as the Farm Bill which provides our nations farmers and ranchers with certainty and stability to continue feeding America. Among other benefits the Farm Bill:
- Strengthens the farm safety net by reauthorizing Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage options for the next five years
- Promotes the conservation of Americas working lands
- Protects crop insurance
- Cuts red tape and reforms burdensome regulations for farm production
- Invests in rural broadband
- Protects the health of the nations livestock sector
- Establishes a scholarship program to assist the next generation of farmers and ranchers
- Maintains the existing SNAP funding authorization
- Provides a $45 million annual increase to food banks of which nearly half annually is devoted to the creation and maintenance of Farm-to-Food Bank programs commonly known as ag surplus programs
Food security is national security and depends on strong agricultural policy that provides certainty and stability for the 3.75 million Texans employed by the agriculture sector"
