ICYMI: President Biden Signs Into Law Cruz Measure Ensuring B-1 Bombers Remain in Service at Dyess

"This language will have a huge impact on the Abilene community and safeguards our military readiness.”

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement today after President Biden signed into law language that he authored, and which was included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024, which ensures that B-1 bomber aircraft are not prematurely cycled out Dyess Air Force Base through September of 2026.

Following passage, Sen. Cruz said, “I’m proud that my amendment to ensure B-1 bombers at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas are maintained for several more years or until their successors, the B-21s, are operational gained bipartisan support in this year’s NDAA package. This language will have a huge impact on the Abilene community and safeguards our military readiness.”

Background:
In addition to extending the life of B-1 bombers, Sen. Cruz secured four other victories in this year’s NDAA. He secured passage of a provision to streamline the presidential permitting process for building four bridges across the Rio Grande in Brownsville, Laredo, and Eagle Pass, Texas. These bridges will boost the Texas and U.S. economy by billions.

Sen. Cruz also secured passage of his legislation to bar the DOD from maintaining JROTC programs at any private school operated or controlled by entities linked to the Chinese Communist Party. Another measure ensures corrupt officials responsible for Vladimir Putin’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline are held accountable was also included in the NDAA. He also secured passage of a bill that will call attention to how the dictatorship in Venezuela seizes American hostages, including Texans.
