CONG. McCAUL: Investigating the Attempted Assassination of President Trump

ALSO: Elon Musk makes one of the best decisions of his career, decides to move the headquarters for X to Austin.

By Cong. Michael McCaul

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — Two weekends ago, America came just centimeters away from losing the former and future President of the United States. I thank God that President Trump is okay. This assassination attempt should be a sobering reminder to many on the Left that rhetoric matters.

I will never forget the iconic image of President Trump standing with his fist in the air following an attempt to end his life. In that moment, President Trump demonstrated the courage and strength America needs.

Now is the time to turn down the temperature and stand together as Americans against abhorrent political violence.

My heart goes out to the loved ones of Corey Comperatore, a brave father who died protecting his family, and to everyone who has been impacted by this senseless act of violence. Please join me in keeping them in your prayers.

This should never have happened. After an assassination threat from Iran on President Trump, the United States Secret Service should have been on high alert. Yet, Director Kimberly Cheatle admitted that her agency failed to protect him. She must be held accountable.

As the chairman emeritus and a current senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, I will be working with my colleagues to conduct oversight of these failures by visiting the site of the rally and questioning key Biden administration officials.

The American people deserve answers, and I’m committed to getting them.

X’s Headquarters Coming To Austin

This week, Elon Musk made one of the best decisions of his career: deciding to move the headquarters for X — otherwise known as Twitter — to Austin.

This is clear proof that our state is the best place to live and do business.

The people of Texas foster an environment in which neighbors support one another, businesses thrive, and parents can safely raise their children. I am proud of our state’s congressional delegation, Governor Abbott, and local leaders who made this possible.

I look forward to the continued jobs and prosperity X will bring to the Lone Star State, and I am glad that Elon has realized what my constituents and I already knew: There’s no place like Texas!
Holding the Department of Energy Accountable

Power restoration in the Houston area has been dangerously slow following Hurricane Beryl.

This week, I joined Houston-area lawmakers in sending a letter to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jennifer Granholm. We expressed our concerns about the DOE reportedly denying a CenterPoint request to help update power grid infrastructure in 2023.

This decision could have significantly impeded Texas’ power restoration and recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl.

I remain in contact with my district team, and I will continue to get answers on the rationale behind decisions that affect our community's recovery and future preparedness.
Strengthening Our Military Assets Against Threats from Illegal Immigrants

President Biden’s open border policies are a threat to U.S. national security. As former Homeland Security Committee chairman, I know how seriously we must take every threat at our border — especially those that approach sensitive facilities like our military bases.

In May, two illegal immigrants posed as Amazon delivery drivers as they attempted to breach a Marine Corps base in Virginia. One of them was reportedly on the terrorist watch list.

We must ensure there are severe consequences for those who attempt to breach our most sensitive facilities. I was proud to introduce the Protecting Military Assets Act alongside Texas Congressman Morgan Luttrell to help mitigate the national security crisis President Biden has created and protect those serving in our Armed Forces.

Congressman Michael McCaul represents Texas' 10th Congressional District, which stretches from Lake Travis outside of Austin to the Brazos Valley and includes: Austin, Bastrop, Brazos, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lee, Madison, Travis, Washington, Waller and Williamson Counties. He currently serves as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and previously – prior to being term-limited as chairman under the House of Representatives Rules – served as the Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee during the 113th, 115th and 116th Congresses.
