CONG. BABIN: Keeping the Government Open, Not Closing It

America must always stand strong, this bill ensures we do.

By Cong. Brian Babin

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, the House passed H.R. 5371 — a short-term continuing resolution (CR) strongly backed by President Trump. I proudly voted “YES” to keep the federal government open at current funding levels through November 21, 2025, while Congress finishes the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process.

Let me be clear: if a shutdown occurs, it will be because of the Democrats and their reckless spending demands. Their last-ditch proposal would have piled on an additional $1.4 trillion in wasteful spending and dismantled much of President Trump’s progress.

While Republicans are working to fund the government responsibly, Democrats continue to push their progressive wish list that the American people already rejected.

Honoring the Life of Charlie Kirk
America lost a remarkable man with the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie was more than a conservative leader—he was a devoted husband, father, and follower of Christ who inspired millions to boldly defend free speech and stand up for their country.

His death was a dark day for our nation. Yet, I am proud that House Republicans came together to honor Charlie’s life, his faith, and his fearless defense of American values. We must remain united against political violence and those who seek to excuse it. Charlie’s legacy will continue to strengthen our fight for freedom.

Supporting Our Servicemembers
As our nation’s military heroes risk their lives to defend our freedoms, it is our duty to ensure they and their families receive the pay, benefits, and support they’ve earned.

Earlier this month, I proudly voted for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 (NDAA). This legislation strengthens our national security, delivers a well-deserved pay raise to our troops, and continues President Trump’s Peace Through Strength agenda.

The NDAA codifies 45 of President Trump’s executive orders and legislative priorities, reforms our acquisition process, and improves quality of life for our servicemembers. Most importantly, it begins the work of rebuilding the ready, capable, and lethal military that was gutted under the Biden administration.

America must always stand strong, and this bill ensures we do.
