Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Key local endorsements continue to stack up for Josh Winegarner in his race to be the next US Representative for the Panhandle, Texoma, and North Texas. Texas Senator Charles Perry today endorsed Winegarner in Texas’ 13th Congressional District. Winegarner was also recently endorsed by US Senator Phil Gramm and former TX Senator Bob Duncan.
Perry has served in the Texas Senate since 2014. Perry chairs the Senate Committee on Water & Rural Affairs and is Vice-Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. He also sits on the Senate Agriculture Committee, which he previously chaired. Perry’s district consists of more than 50 counties, several of which are in the 13th Congressional District.
“Josh Winegarner has spent his professional career working for the agricultural industry. He grew up and has always been a part of the agricultural epicenter of the country,” said Perry. “He gets Ag! That is why I support Josh Winegarner.”
Winegarner finished on top in the March Republican primary with nearly 40% of the vote and a lead of nearly 20 percentage points over his closest rival.
“I am a staunch conservative, and I understand how important the agricultural and energy products we produce are to the economy of our state and our country,” said Winegarner. “Senator Perry and I share these values and will work together to ensure that we continue to have strong representation in Austin and Washington.”
Winegarner was born and raised in the Panhandle and is an expert on agriculture, trade, tax, and small business issues. He is a conservative Republican who worked for Senator Gramm as well as Senator John Cornyn advising them on key issues like agriculture and small business.
“It is times like this where people begin to realize what is most important,” said Winegarner. “For me, it’s my Christian values, my family, my Panhandle upbringing and work ethic, and my love for America. I am eager to get to work on behalf of the people of the 13th District.”
