Since last Oct. 1st 2 groups of 400 people 10 groups over 300 and 48 groups of 200 detained
EL PASO Texas (Texas Insider Report) The U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) photo above shows some of the 1036 illegal immigrants who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border into El Paso Texas on May 29 2019 the largest single group Border Patrol has ever encountered the agency said late last week.
Border Security Authorities said the group included:
- 934 people in Families
- 63 Unaccompanied Children and
- 39 Single Adults
Video recordings (below) show the immigrants crossing into the U.S. by going under a chain-link fence where they then waited for for Border Patrol Agents to arrive.
Since Oct. 1 2018 there have been:
- 180 groups of more than 100 people
- which compares to 13 similar sized groups during the previous 12-month period andÂ
- just 2 such groups the year before
- 48 groups of more than 200 people
- 10 groups of over 300 and
- 2 groups of more than 400 people
The Border Patrol has encountered 46 groups of more than 100 people in May alone authorities said.
Just last week Border Patrol arrested a group of 430 on Monday in the same area of El Paso as the group of 1036 illegal immigrants were detained on Wednesday.
The crossing are the latest sign that migrants are strategically crossing the U.S.-Mexico Border illegally in large groups.
Migrant families who claim asylum are typically released in the United States with notices to appear before an immigration court on some distant future date.
According a recent report by the U.S. Department of Justices Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) an agency pilot program launched to track the cases of family units crossing the U.S.-Mexico Border illegally found that 87.5 of the families fail to appear in court.
Basically theyre wandering in the United States doing their thing until something happens.
Unfortunately thats just the way the system is at this time so its one of the flaws in the immigration system thats currently in place" said Border Patrol Agent Hermann Rivera.
He knows first-hand the way the immigration system works.
From September 2018 through April 2019 7724 Orders of Removal were issued. From that group 6764 orders resulted in absentia which is not a surprise to Agent Rivera.
With the Department of Homeland Security having limited resources to house and process the families the Justice Departments EOIR Division created the pilot program to track and expedite family unit cases in 10 Immigration Court locations across the country.
