Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the appointment of Sen. Brandon Creighton, of Conroe, former Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, of Austin, and Sherry Sylvester, of San Antonio, to the 1836 Project Advisory Committee. Upon making the appointments, Lt. Gov. Patrick issued the following statement:
"The 1836 Project will play a key role in ensuring that future generations learn the truth about Texas history, and about the core values that have contributed to making Texas the greatest state in the country. My appointees are all proud Texans and they have my complete confidence moving forward.”
Senator Brandon Creighton of Conroe (with Lt. Gov. Patrick on the Texas Senate Floor, right,) currently serves as the State Senator for District 4. Previously, he served in the Texas House of Representatives. Creighton is an eighth-generation Texan and Montgomery County resident.Jerry Patterson, of Austin, is the former Texas Land Commissioner and a former State Senator. He served as president of the Western States Land Commissioners Association, and was named 2007 Texan of the Year by Celebrate Texas. Patterson is a U.S. Marines veteran with 24 years of active and reserve service.
Sherry Sylvester, of San Antonio, is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation with a focus on Texas history and identity. Sylvester also previously served as a long-time Senior Advisor to Lt. Gov. Patrick, and she worked as a policy advocate in Washington D.C. and three other state capitols: Albany, Salem and Trenton.
The 1836 Project Advisory Committee was created by the 87th Legislature as an advisory committee to promote patriotic education and increase awareness of the Texas values that continue to stimulate boundless prosperity across this state.
