Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Announces Appointments to the Sunset Advisory

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today after making the following appointments to the Sunset Advisory Commission: Sen. Tan Parker, R-Flower Mound, as a presiding officer, Sen. Cesar Blanco, D-El Paso, Sen. Mayes Middleton, R-Galveston, Sen. Kevin Sparks, R-Midland, and Roger Elswick, of Houston:

“The Sunset Advisory Commission’s job is to make sure that Texas state government remains as lean, effective, and efficient as possible. I have complete confidence in these appointees, and I know they will ensure that our state agencies remain productive in both planning and execution but, most importantly, that they remain accountable to the legislature and the people of Texas.”

Sen. Tan Parker, of Flower Mound, has served as senator from District 12 since 2023. He served in the Texas House from 2007 to 2023.

Sen. Cesar Blanco, of El Paso, has served as senator from District 29 since 2021. He served in the Texas House from 2015 to 2021.

Sen. Mayes Middleton, of Galveston, has served as senator from District 11 since 2023. He served in the Texas House from 2019 to 2022.

Sen. Kevin Sparks, of Midland, has served as senator from District 31 since 2023.

Roger Elswick, of Houston, is the president and owner of Elswick Automotive in Baytown. He previously served as the divisional vice president of Sonic Automotive in Houston. He is a board member for the National Automobile Dealers Association and is the former director of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association. He also serves as a board member of the Baytown Chamber of Commerce. Elswick received his bachelor’s degree of business administration in accounting from Marshall University.

The Sunset Advisory Commission conducts regular reviews of state agencies that are scheduled to be abolished by the Texas Sunset Act. After holding public hearings on each agency, the commission issues a report to the legislature with recommendation on whether the agency shall continue and, if so, makes recommendations for positive improvement.
