U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. As a former federal terrorism prosecutor Ive been adamant and vocal about my aggressive efforts as your representative in Congress to strengthen our national security defeat violent Islamist extremism and provide for the common defense. After two years of fighting vigorously to advance these goals Im proud to report that weve made big strides to ensure Americas safety.
Not only did we pass major legislation this past week to give our service members their biggest pay raise in six years (S. 2943) but we also just passed my bill to expand our partnership with Israel (H.R. 5877) in both the House and the Senate. At a time when both our nations are faced with rapidly escalating threats from those who intend to do us harm its more imperative than ever that we enhance our collaboration with our strongest ally in the Middle East.
2017 National Defense Authorization Act Highlights:
- Increases military pay by 2.1 percent
- Prevents Guantanamo Bay detainee transfers to the United States
- Combats Terrorism and Radical Islamist extremists
- Reverses the drawdown on troop numbers
- Strengthens support for Israel with funds for Israeli cooperative missile defense including the Iron Dome
- Prioritizes cyber defense capabilities
With a president-elect whos made it clear hes serious about boosting our defense capabilities Im looking forward to hitting the ground running to build upon the progress weve made so far under unified Republican leadership come January. Protecting our homeland must remain a top priority after all our Constitution demands nothing less.
