Maritime Technology Consortium Partners with San Jacinto College for $382548 Job-Training Grant

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas AET Offshore Services Inc. Buffalo Marine Service Inc. G&H Towing Harley Marine Gulf LLC Higman Barge Lines Inc. J.M.S. Marine Services LLC and Martin Resource Management Corp. have partnered with San Jacinto College to provide job training using a $382548 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast Texas area.
The partnership of this consortium and San Jacinto College on this Skills Development Fund grant will benefit both the local community and its workforce" said Andres Alcantar TWC Chairman and Commissioner Representing the Public. Our labor force is among the most talented and skilled in the world and we continue to seek and implement strategies to improve the skills of Texas workers."
This grant will be used to provide custom training to 211 new and incumbent workers for industry-related topics such as maritime electrical systems design thermal heaters HVAC and systems maintenance. Trainees will include barge supervisors ship engineers and marine superintendents. Upon completion of training the workers will receive an average hourly wage of $34.84. Since its inception in 1996 the Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 342428 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 4238 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature allocated $48.5 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2016-17 biennium.
