Fighting to Stop Fentanyl and Bolster Immigration Through Work with Mexico
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. ā From foreign adversaries to cartels, bad actors around the world are increasingly using drones to target infrastructure and harm innocent civilians. As the U.S. prepares to host millions of visitors for the FIFA World Cup and America250 celebrations, we must be prepared to neutralize this evolving threat.
That's why I introduced the Guard the Skies Act, which would enable the National Guard to conduct counter-drone operations. A force positioned for rapid deployment and crisis response, the National Guard is uniquely qualified to protect our skies and the large-scale gatherings below. Iām grateful to a bipartisan group of my colleagues for joining me in this effort to ensure our upcoming events reflect American excellence in every aspect, including our security posture.

As chairman of the Homeland Security Committee's Task Force on Securing the Homeland Amidst Special Events, I have also been working closely with the White House FIFA Task Force, which is led by Andrew Giuliani. This week, I invited Andrew to my office to discuss our latest work to defend against drone threats and much more. We look forward to a great summer of events that showcase American exceptionalism!
Fighting to Stop Fentanyl and Bolster Immigration Through Work with Mexico
Mexico and the United States are connected not only by our southern border, but also by mutual security challenges and shared economic interests. As the chairman of the U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group, I recently led a delegation to Mexico, where we secured a
historic agreement from the Mexican Senate to allow U.S. Marines to conduct joint exercises in Mexico. Together, our forces are working to combat fentanyl trafficking before this deadly drug reaches the U.S. border.
On the heels of that trip, I joined the brand new
Congressional U.S.-Mexico Caucus as an inaugural member. Strengthening areas of collaboration ā from agriculture to immigration to counter-narcotics efforts ā will no doubt benefit both of our nations and the broader region.
Kicking Off America250 Celebrations with a Musical Performance
To celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, the Smithsonian Institution held an event with other Texas organizations to highlight our state's musical heritage and to showcase the unifying power of music. Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle performed throughout the evening, and I was honored to play "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" on the guitar, while Congressman Brian Babin sang along. Later in the night, Miss America and others joined us on stage as we performed "Take Me Home, Country Roads."
It was a fantastic way to kick off America250, and I look forward to many more celebrations in the coming months to honor our great nation and its heritage!
