"I am proud to remember the sacrifices of my father and so many others in the Greatest Generation, who fought to defend freedom and democracy, not only in America but around the world."
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 6, 1944, the Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy to fight against tyranny and liberate Europe from Nazi occupation. This decisive operation — in which more than 2,500 brave Americans paid the ultimate price — turned the tide of the war and changed the course of history.
My father, James McCaul Jr., was a bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress as part of the 34th Bombardment Group, which helped prepare Operation Overlord — the code name for D-Day — by bombing the airfields around Normandy.
Eighty-two years later, I am proud to remember the sacrifices of my father and so many others in the Greatest Generation, who fought to defend freedom and democracy, not only in America but around the world.
Like so many members of that generation, my father was both incredibly brave and deeply humble. He was my personal hero, who inspired me to pursue a life of public service. Now, it's our job to share the stories of World War II — of good prevailing against one of the world's greatest evils — with the next generation.- Click Here to watch a Fox News interview about my father's service that I conducted from Normandy on the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
We must never forget the sacrifices these brave men and women made to defend our freedom, and we must continue to share their stories!
