CONG. McCAUL: Honoring Veterans, Celebrating a New & Safer Day in America

The Trump Administration's Foreign Policy is Creating a Safer America, Securing the Border, Protecting Texans

By Cong. Michael McCaul

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Eighty years ago this week, the Battle of the Bulge – which Winston Churchill described as "the greatest American battle" of World War II – finally came to an end, paving the way for Europe's liberation. Over a span of six weeks, half a million American heroes fought in the battle, in temperatures as low as -18 degrees, .

It is our duty to take the lessons learned from our fathers, grandfathers, and history to preserve what these men fought for – something I strive to do each day in Congress.

Last week, I had the tremendous honor of meeting four World War II veterans who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and assisting them in laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery. In times of great peril, these men fought against tyranny to preserve freedom – just like my father did as a WWII bombardier.

They will always be remembered as the Greatest Generation.

In December, I led a Congressional delegation to Luxembourg and Belgium to commemorate the beginning of this battle.
The Trump Administration's Foreign Policy is Creating a Safer America

After just a few days in office, President Trump and his administration have already made our nation safer by demonstrating strength – not weakness – on the world stage.

I'm extremely pleased the senate voted to confirm Marco Rubio as our 72nd secretary of state. Like me, Secretary Rubio is also sanctioned by the Chinese Communist Party, a badge of honor that proves he will not shrink back in the face of our adversaries’ threats. With him at the helm of the State Department, the days of America exhibiting weakness and appeasing our adversaries – including China – are over.

The Trump administration has also signaled they will not put up with terrorists like the Houthi rebels.

This militant group has recently launched numerous attacks on U.S. interests and international shipping in the Red Sea – disrupting global supply chains and driving up costs. Yet President Biden inexplicably removed their designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and refused to listen when I urged him and his administration to reverse that misguided decision.

His strategy of appeasement only emboldened these Iran-backed terrorists as they worked to destabilize the region and the world.

Thankfully, President Trump wasted no time in doing the right thing and re-designating the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, intent on harming the United States and its citizens.

Thank you, Mr. President, for demonstrating the strength needed to deter our adversaries and keep Americans safe!

Combating Cyberthreats from our Adversaries Like the CCP

When I chaired the Homeland Security Committee, my legislation created a cybersecurity agency at the Department of Homeland Security because I knew cyberattacks would be a large part of warfare in the future.

Since then, the Chinese Communist Party has sanctioned me and pushed disinformation about me online.

They've also targeted critical U.S. infrastructure like water treatment plants and electrical grids. Their hackers lay in wait on these infrastructure networks, so they can inflict real-world harm at a time and place of their choosing.

This week, the Homeland Security Committee held its first hearing of the 119th Congress, focused on cybersecurity threats posed by our adversaries like the CCP. Click below to watch my exchange with the witnesses about how to deter China's malign cyber efforts.
  Securing the Border, Protecting Texans

President Trump recently announced a new chief of Border Patrol, Mike Banks. No one is better suited for this role than Mike, who has been Texas' true "border czar" under Governor Abbott's leadership.

With him at the helm, I join thousands of Texans in looking forward to a secure border and a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future.

Our state and nation also owe a debt of gratitude to outgoing Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens. He answered the call to serve in this crucial role during the most difficult time in history, under an administration that fought CBP’s efforts at every turn.

Thankfully, those days are over.

The Trump administration will stand by our brave agents at the border, and as vice chair of the Homeland Security Committee, I look forward to helping them do their jobs!

The administration has also began deporting violent criminal illegal aliens – including child molesters, murderers, terrorists, and brutal gang members – just as they promised.

There was NO excuse for these individuals to be allowed on our streets.

Texans and Americans across the country are breathing a sigh of relief today as our brave ICE agents carry out this mission.

I join them in looking forward to a new, safer era for our nation!
