McCaul: Mamdani's Victory: A Loss for America

Now more than ever, leaders on both sides of the aisle must refuse to normalize antisemitism and must stand up for the rights of all Americans to live and worship freely.

Texas Insider Report WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Party has officially handed over its reins to the most radical parts of its base. Amidst Democrats' record-breaking shutdown, they’ve also made a far-left socialist the face of their future. Zohran Mamdani — NYC's newly-elected mayor — has suggested the U.S. abolish its entire prison system and called the NYPD racist and a threat to public safety. His victory is a loss for anyone who values the rule of law, limited government, and the American dream.

I’m also extremely concerned by Mamdani's anti-Israel sentiment, his equivocation when asked to condemn Hamas, and his refusal to disavow the antisemitic phrase "globalize the intifada." With the NYPD reporting that 62% of all hate crimes in NYC last month targeted Jews, Mamdani’s rhetoric risks fueling an already-raging safety crisis for Jewish New Yorkers. Now more than ever, leaders on both sides of the aisle must refuse to normalize antisemitism and must stand up for the rights of all Americans to live and worship freely.

Standing with Persecuted Christians in Nigeria
In the first seven months of this year, radical jihadists reportedly slaughtered more than 7,000 Nigerian Christians and abducted 7,000 more. This week, President Trump and Secretary Rubio took the necessary step of re-designating Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern."

The brutal persecution of Nigerian Christians isn’t new. The Biden administration's inexplicable removal of Nigeria from the CPC list turned a blind eye to the jihadists' violence — enabling their systemic tortures, massacres, and abductions. I raised this concern with President Biden's state department multiple times, including in a full letter I sent to former Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

I'm thankful the Trump administration has fixed this injustice and done right by our Christian brothers and sisters around the world.
