My State Of The Union Address

By Derek Hunter

On Tuesday President Donald Trump will deliver the State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress. Rather than speculate as to what hes going to say and how Democrats will respond to it this is the speech I would give were I President of the United States.

Ladies and Gentlemen the state of our union is strong. But its not as strong as it could be not as strong as it should be and not nearly as strong as it would be if we had 2 parties making the safety security and prosperity of the American people their top priorities.

I know these speeches arent generally this partisan but these are unique times that demand a unique call to action.

I could go through and talk about the thousands of American families devastated when a family members was killed by someone who shouldnt have been in the country in the first place but these stories arent unknown to members of this body or the journalists who cover you. They are well known and they are ignored.

By pointing out their pain I would only be making it worse. Not by reminding them of their tragic loss but by reminding them that so many who could do something to their ranks from swelling have no interest in doing so. That so many in this chamber while paying lip service to the idea of securing our border have refused to do and been able to with cover from journalists who are supposed to report the truth.

That cover has come in the form of ignoring them of belittling their pain of mockingly pretending they dont exist. They do exist. Far too many of them exist. And far too many of you have ignored them for too long.

They and their pain are real. Each one of these families seated in the gallery above you and across the country watching on TV would not be in that pain if we vigorously enforced our immigration laws. They would not be in that pain if made it as difficult as possible to cross our border illegally. If we didnt have state and local governments prioritizing the protection of people with no right to be here over the lives of American citizens.

If you dont like our laws change our laws thats your damn job. But wishing a law didnt exist does not make it so; it does not change it. And my administration will no longer go soft on those who knowingly and willingly break our immigration laws nor will it tolerate any jurisdiction that aids those who do.

I am instructing every Executive Branch department to seek out and end every single penny of federal funding on any issue to sanctuary cities counties and states. It doesnt matter if that money is related to immigration or not. Every application with a missing dot above an I" or an uncrossed T" will be rejected.

These localities are free to continue their thwarting of federal law but they can no longer do it without consequence.

Almost everyone in the chamber will see at least some their constituents impacted in one way or another. But I will be enforcing the laws as written by this body exercising authority granted the President by this body.

There is a way to avoid this negotiate in good faith to secure our southern border and protect American citizens. There is a lot of common ground we can agree on if we stop worrying about scoring political points and start worrying about doing whats right.

I know you wanted to use this in the next election that you stood up to me" and all that. But Ill tell you what would be a better campaign slogan that you stood up for the American people. Because one American life ended by an illegal alien is one life too many. We have a duty and a moral obligation to make sure we do all we can to prevent that from happening to prevent any more American families from becoming Angel Families.

How we manage to do that matters less than the fact that we manage to do it. So I ask you now in front of those whove lost too much already to join me to join them in taking every measure to stop the illegal flow of people and drugs across our open southern border.

Dont do it for me do it for those angel families and the millions of Americans whove lost loved ones to the scourge of heroin. Do it to hurt the drug cartels and the human smugglers. Do it to protect the United States of America.

Our economy is amazingly strong terrorism is on the decline America is great again. But we still have more work to do to make it even better. That works starts with securing our southern border. Put aside petty politics stop worrying about the next election and how to defeat me and live up to the oath you took when you were sworn into Congress.

Make the state of our union as strong as it could be as strong as it should be. Build the damn wall! God bless you all and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Toxic masculinity" has become one of the latest rallying cries on the left a new way to attack a favorite target white men. All kinds of behavior is lumped in under this label. Men who rape women are labeled the same as men who play contact sports. Instead of specifically describing toxic rapists" or similar the phrase implies that all men are toxic.

But its not accurate. Not all men are toxic. Rapists abusers murderers etc. are toxic. Childrens sports coaches pastors and men who are caregivers are not. Gillette came out with a controversial ad last month condemning toxic masculinity. It featured men looking the other way as boys behaved badly. But what kind of men did it show? Not thugs and absentee fathers. As author Barbara McKay pointed out these were neatly dressed middle-class men barbecuing. These are fathers deeply invested in family life." But the ad made it look like even the best of regular good guys enable toxic behavior by their gender.

The reality is there are plenty of evil women too. Why not toxic femininity" then? Because feminists know that it will tarnish all women. I asked a lefty friend of mine why no one uses the phrase and he says because it means the same thing as misogyny. Well if thats true and toxic masculinity means misandry then why is it OK to use it to describe men?

An article in The New York Times paints a broad brush defining toxic masculinity. It describes it as tough-guy behavior suppressing emotions or masking distress and maintaining an appearance of hardness. It makes no pretense to even include serious crimes.

But you cant paint a broad brush of all men engaging in these behaviors. Some men really enjoy getting physical; whether as a boxer police officer or engaged in manual labor. And the latter two are necessary jobs we need tough strong men in those positions.

There are plenty of men who dont feel comfortable talking about their feelings and thats just the way they are. Just like there are many women who dont feel comfortable talking about their feelings. The problem is the left likes to paint everyone with a broad brush and fit them into group stereotypes. Why not treat men and women as individuals?

Whats wrong with men maintaining an appearance of hardness? Maybe its necessary for some men if they work in a field such as the military in order to maintain control. Look at the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. She represented the epitome of maintaining an appearance of hardness. Was it OK for her because shes a woman?

The effort to label men as toxic seems to be contrived in order to pit the sexes against each other. Its part of a larger strategy by the left to keep women within the Democratic fold. Since more men than women are conservative theyre an easy target. Portray them as toxic and conservatism looks toxic by association. Democrats look like the party that cares about protecting poor innocent women from all those dangerous men.

Its difficult to refute accusations of toxic masculinity because the Democrats will just point to real criminals such as mass shooters. No one wants to be seen appearing to defend mass shooters. The Democrats portray toxic masculinity as a slippery slope with shooting people just a step away from tough-guy behavior. Its hard to prove a negative how can any man prove that hes not going to become a serial murderer or rapist?

The sad result of this is its taken away energy from focusing on the real criminals. Instead every man is looked at suspiciously and required to do things like obtain written consent from a woman on college campus before dating her. Men are walking on pins and needles around women afraid their toxic masculinity will be attacked as sexual harassment and result in discipline. Its gotten so bad men are afraid to hold doors open for women. Feminist site The Lily says its an outdated gesture and men should stop doing it.

How did we go from men doing something nice for women to something lumped in with rapists and murderers? Its time to start calling out the phrase toxic masculinity for what it is a dishonest way to delegitimize half the population.
