Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – FEMA has extended the deadline for Central Texas families affected by the devastating July flooding to apply for federal disaster assistance.
Homeowners and renters whose homes sustained damage and aren't insured now have until Sunday, Sept. 28 to apply, according to the agency. Several counties, including Kerr, where more than 100 people from all across the state died when the Guadalupe River rose to historic levels the morning of July Fourth, were designated for assistance from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration in the wake of the natural disaster. Those counties included in the disaster declaration include:
- Burnet
- Guadalupe
- Kerr
- Kimble
- McCulloch
- Menard
- San Saba
- Tom Green
- Travis
- Williamson
FEMA provides coverage for housing, property, vehicles, medical expenses, and other needs. The federal agency collaborates closely with the Small Business Administration, which offers loans to homeowners, renters, nonprofit organizations, and businesses of all sizes.
Flood survivors can apply for FEMA assistance online through the FEMA website here, via the FEMA mobile app, or by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. The phone lines are open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT.
