New York Democrats Opt For Socialism… For Now

Stephen Moore: Unleash Prosperity Hotline -- More evidence of the miserable state of affairs on the Left. As we feared, the Democrats in America’s largest city chose Zohram Mamdani, the 33 year-old socialist. He was able to avoid serious scrutiny of his crazed ideas to cripple the police, business and educational standards - in part because he had the luxury of running against the disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Good riddance to him.

Mamdani would be a loon as mayor, but there is real opposition. Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent, has his own scandal skeletons, but is not a wrecking ball aimed at New York’s future. Curtis Sliwa, founder of the anti-crime Guardian Angels, is the Republican candidate.

The worry is that if Adams and Sliwa split the anti-Mamdani vote they will likely both lose. Some business leaders are urging President Trump to appoint Sliwa to a post at the U.S. Department of Justice. That would make it much easier to beat Mamdani after his radical record is finally scrutinized.

Word to the wise: Chicago Democrats went with a charismatic socialist Mayor two years ago when Brandon Johnson was elected, and that experiment has been a complete tax and spend fiasco for the Second City. What a sad state of affairs for the Big Apple.
