Governors have taken the event to lay out their top policy concerns for the session. Governor Perry used the event to highlight his desire to exempt many businesses from the onerous state franchise tax and Governor Abbott used the opportunity to lay out his demand that he will not sign a spending bill that does not contain significant and meaningful tax relief." The legislature answered by enacting the NFIB/Texas endorsed 25 percent cut in the franchise tax and tax relief for Texas homeowners.
