Pfluger: My Response to Israel's Strikes on Iran

Blocking Noncitizens from Voting in our Nation's Capital

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. –  President Trump was clear when he called for the complete and permanent suspension of Iran’s nuclear program. Iran has not only ignored America's good-faith diplomatic efforts, but it has also taken aggressive steps in the opposite direction. Just this week, for the first time in nearly two decades, the International Atomic Energy Agency formally declared Iran to be in violation of its nuclear nonproliferation commitments. In addition to this unsettling development, the terrorist regime announced plans to construct a new enrichment facility just this week.

In response, Israel launched overnight military strikes, successfully eliminating some of Iran’s top military leaders, damaging one of its nuclear sites, and preventing Iran’s ability to retaliate by taking out missile launchers in Iran. Let me be clear: Israel has the absolute right to defend itself, and I proudly stand with our ally as it confronts the existential threat posed by a nuclear-armed Iran. I applaud the bravery of our Israeli friends, including, Prime Minister Netanyahu, the IDF, and the Mossad, and will pray for their continued success and protection as I closely monitor the situation.

Congress and all of America must stand with Israel today and always. I will continue to be a strong voice for Israel in Congress and renew my call for the complete and total dismantling of Iran's nuclear program. Iran must never have any capability to enrich uranium, and Congress must act now to reimpose a maximum pressure campaign against Iran. Over 60 days ago, Iran was given a choice, and once again, it has chosen to be an enemy of the free world. I urge the ayatollahs to reconsider and take immediate steps toward peace.

Blocking Noncitizens from Voting in our Nation's Capital

This week, my legislation to block noncitizens from voting in Washington, D.C., passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives by a bipartisan vote of 266-148.

The radical D.C. City Council decided to allow noncitizens—including illegal aliens and foreign agents—to vote in local elections. Even worse, they then proceeded to encourage noncitizens to vote for Mayor, Attorney General, and more. It's no secret that local elections determine critical matters, and allowing noncitizens to vote in them opens Pandora’s box to D.C.’s already radical local policies, diluting the voting power of citizen voters.

I applaud the House for taking action to defend that power and restore the sanctity of the voting process by passing my legislation this week. It's common sense: Only American citizens should be able to vote in U.S. elections. Anyone who voted against my bill voted for the transfer of political power away from legal voters.

You can read more about my bill in The Daily Caller here. Additionally, you can watch my floor remarks in support of the legislation here.
