Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued the following statements after the
Holocaust Expropriated Art Restoration Act (HEAR Act) was signed into law by the President:
Senator Cornyn: The systematic theft of property by the Nazis during the Holocaust robbed victims and their families of important parts of their heritage. Allowing them the opportunity to recover part of their history is a small but significant step thats long overdue. I want to thank Senator Cruz for his partnership on this bill and Im glad the President has signed this into law so victims can seek the justice they deserve."
Senator Cruz: Today with the Presidents signature we delivered a long-overdue victory for the families of Holocaust victims. This bipartisan legislation rights a terrible injustice and sends a clear signal that America will continue to root out every noxious vestige of the Nazi regime. Im proud to have worked closely with Senator Cornyn who contributed mightily to this effort and with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to empower the victims of the horrific atrocities that took place over 70 years ago. We will continue to fight to bring peace and justice to these families."
Background on the HEAR Act
Senators Cruz and Cornyn along with Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) introduced the
HEAR Act in April to facilitate the return of artwork stolen by the Nazis during the Holocaust and ensure that the artworks rightful owners or heirs get their day in court . The
HEAR Act ensures that American law encourages the resolution of claims on Nazi-confiscated art on the merits in a fair and just manner consistent with long-standing U.S. foreign policy.
