Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Representatives Bill Flores (R-TX) Peter Welch (D-VT) and Jim Costa (D-CA) issued the following joint statement regarding the Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) 2017 volume requirement for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS):
Today the EPA announced that it is again increasing the amount of ethanol to be forced into our nations gasoline supplies under the Renewable Fuel Standard. These higher volumes of ethanol will increase the costs of fuel and food for our constituents. In addition they are damaging to the engines of older vehicles and to small engines used in boats recreational vehicles chainsaws lawnmowers and similar equipment.
Forcing more ethanol into the market creates uncertainty for our economy the environment and for hardworking American families. Rather than continue down this unsustainable path it is time that Congress fix the RFS once and for all. Our bipartisan Food and Fuel Consumer Protection Act which has increasing support in the House protects consumers from further harm with a common-sense bipartisan market-based solution to the RFS.
