Rep. Cuellar Calls on the Use of the Defense Production Act Powers Immediately

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) calls on President Trump to immediately use the Defense Production Act to address the widespread shortages of crucial materials during the coronavirus pandemic, such as ventilators, diagnostic test supplies, masks, and other protective equipment.
 
“Health care workers and first responders, who are on the front lines of defense against the Coronavirus, are in desperate need of critical medical and personal protective equipment,” said Congressman Cuellar. “The lack of public health infrastructure, including ventilators and diagnostic test supplies, harms their ability to properly respond to this pandemic.”
 
“I urge the President to immediately use the powers of the Defense Production Act in order to meet the demands and avert the shortages that would be devastating. There is no time to waste, we need to protect Americans now. As a senior Appropriator, I will continue to fight for our health care providers and first responders by providing them with the critical resources they need to address this public health crisis.”
