Cong. Mayra Flores Tells President Biden: Our Strategic Petroleum Reserve is Not Your Strategic Political Reserve

Gas prices are up more than 60%.since Joe Biden's been president

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas –“You can’t open the spigot of our strategic oil reserves – which is meant for national emergencies – to hide your failed energy policies or serve your political purposes," said Congresswoman Mayra Flores (TX-34) earlier today, slamming President Biden for continuing to drain the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) after the White House announced yesterday that another 15 million barrels would be scheduled to be released from prior to the month of December.

“By doing so, you are not only putting our National Security at risk, but you are also ensuring artificial pricing of the oil markets, which is neither sustainable nor fair to hard-working American energy producers,” said Flores.

Flores will join a Congressional Resolution this Friday expressing that energy security is national security. It will also highlight the proven fact that the Biden White House’s energy policies have resulted in the United States being energy dependent on other nations and that we must encourage domestic energy production.

Background:
  • The SPR is at its lowest level since 1984.
  • When OPEC+ announced production cuts last week, President Biden announced the release of 10 million more barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
  • The only three other times we’ve drawn from the SPR were in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm, in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, and in 2011 during the instability in the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Under this Administration, America is producing 1.2 million fewer barrels of oil per day.
