Cong. Myra Flores Tours Weslaco Village Apartments, Announcing New $16.5 Million Package for South Texas Border City

“Housing is a key pillar for family stability and well-being, and projects like the one happening right here in Weslaco, shows that public-private partnerships work.”

Texas Insider Report: WESLACO, Texas – Congresswoman Mayra Flores (TX-34) released the following statement after visiting the site where the new Weslaco Village Apartments, an affordable housing project in TX-34 district, is to be built:

“Housing is a key pillar for family stability and well-being, and projects like the one happening right here in Weslaco shows that public-private partnerships work,” said Congresswoman Flores.

“Housing & Urban Development (HUD) resources, along with private funds, will not only ensure that our community meets its affordable housing demands, but do so in a way that is beneficial to residents, taxpayers, and community stakeholders.

"This is a win-win for TX-34,” said Flores.

The new project is estimated to cost $16.5 million dollars and was helped by a $750,000 Affordable Housing Program subsidy from Wells Fargo and a Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas.

When completed, it will deliver 50 units, all of which will be energy efficient and will also have ADA-compliant modifications for those residents with disabilities.

Congresswoman Flores has been a huge advocate for affordable housing in South Texas. As shown by her support here today, she continues to be a friend to accessible housing.

"We’re thrilled to have contributed to the project, in conjunction with our member, Wells Fargo,”
said Bre Chapman, executive vice president and chief ESG and administrative officer at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas).
