ACU Releases its 2017 Ratings of Congress
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. (ALEXANDRIA VA) The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) released its
47th Annual Federal Ratings of Congress and announced that Rep. Jeb Hensarling is among the recipients of ACUFs Award for Conservative Excellence.
Each year ACUF produces an annual scorecard based on the voting records of members in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. All members of Congress are issued a score and awards are presented to those members who score an 80 percent or higher.
Rep. Hensarling (97 ACU Lifetime) earned 96 for the 2017 session.
Jeb will retire from Congress with a congressional record of which to be proud. He has led the way on issue after issue and was one of the most competent and effective Chairmen of the House Financial Services Committee" said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp. He is the rare Member of Congress who we hope will stay engaged in the public policy fight as his intelligence and voice is greatly needed."
For decades the American Conservative Union has fought for and advanced common sense conservative principles through policy initiatives and the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)" said Rep. Hensarling. It is an honor to be recognized by such an influential group."
This sessions scorecard is made up of 25 bills in the US House of Representatives and 21 bills in the US Senate. The bills selected cover a wide range of issues including fiscal and economic social and cultural and national security and are designed to reflect how an individual views the role of government in an individuals life.
This year some of the key issues ACU Foundation scored include:
- repeal of Obamacare
- passage of comprehensive tax reform
- defunding of Planned Parenthood
- repeal of Dodd-Frank
- and key presidential nominations to cabinet positions.
ACUF is the sister organization of the American Conservative Union the nations original conservative organization and has for more than fifty years educated and activated the conservative movement through its ratings programs policy centers and educational events such as the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) the largest annual gathering of conservatives in the nation.
