Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Texas Medical Association (TMA) has named Rep. Sarah Davis (R-West University Place) as one of Texas best legislators from the 85th legislative session. Representative Davis is one of four TMA 2017 Patient Protection Award winners the association recognized today.
TMA physicians and TMA Alliance members presented the award to Representative Davis at its Advocacy Retreat in Austin. The award recognizes legislators who earned physicians greatest gratitude on behalf of their patients.
Representative Davis serves more physician constituents than any member of the Texas House and for that matter more than any House member in any other state...and she does so with distinction said TMA President Carlos J. Cardenas MD.
In 2017 Representative Davis served as chair of the Texas House of Representatives General Investigating and Ethics Committee as a member of both the Calendars and Corrections Committees and as chair of the Health and Human Services Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee.
In a challenging budget year Representative Davis successfully championed funding top TMA priorities including mental health and womens health to expand access to care for women before during and after pregnancy. She also passed legislation to increase access to postpartum depression screening and treatment to safeguard a mothers well-being and her childs safety health and development.
Representative Davis helped pave the way for lawmakers to address critical health care bills said Dr. Cardenas. For these efforts and for her dedicated leadership on so many issues we are proud to present her TMAs Patient Protection Award.
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation representing more than 50000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMAs key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
