Rep. Todd Hunter Wins TMAs Patient Protection Award

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Texas Medical Association (TMA) has named Rep. Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi) as one of Texas best legislators from the 85th legislative session. Representative Hunter is one of four TMA 2017 Patient Protection Award winners the association recognized today. TMA physicians and TMA Alliance members presented the award to Representative Hunter at its Advocacy Retreat in Austin. The award recognizes legislators who earned physicians greatest gratitude on behalf of their patients.
Representative Hunter helped pave the way for lawmakers to address critical health care bills said TMA President Carlos J. Cardenas MD.
Representative Hunter served as the Texas House of Representatives Calendars Committee chair vice-chair of the Urban Affairs Committee and as a member of the Criminal Jurisprudence Redistricting and General Investigating and Ethics Committees. This past session he supported the distracted driving legislation making it illegal to text while driving while prioritizing other public health measures as well and he backed Maintenance of Certification reform important to many physicians.
His counsel to TMA throughout the years has been priceless said Dr. Cardenas. He put patients first as he has done for years his work as a champion on behalf of patients has earned him TMAs Patient Protection Award.
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation representing more than 50000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMAs key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
