Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, TX – Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today applauded the distribution of a $634,000,000 grant awarded to Texas by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding, made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, will begin being directly deposited to 393 Critical Access Hospitals (CAH’s), Rural Health Clinics (RHC’s), and Community Health Centers statewide.
“The devastating effects of COVID-19 have only added to the challenges rural health care providers face, as many operated on limited financial resources before the pandemic,” said Congressman Williams. “This funding will help providers keep their doors open while elective procedures remain stagnant and resources are funneled toward prevention and response to the virus. There is no replacement for the roles these facilities play in our Texas communities and I am proud to ensure they are provided with critical aid to continue serving patients.”
Each entity will receive a minimum base amount of either $100,000 or $1,000,000 depending on the type of facility and then additional funding will be disbursed based on operating expenses.
