Rep. Williams Joins Lawsuit Against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Over Unconstitutional Proxy Vote Rule

"I was sent to House of Representatives to be a voice for every constituent in the 25th District, and I am proud to join my Republican colleagues defending the constitutional rights of all Americans.”

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) joined House Republicans and American citizens in filing a federal lawsuit against Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenging the constitutionality of the Democrat rule on proxy voting (H.Res. 965):

“The Constitution does not disappear in the midst of a crisis. Period. Yet Speaker Pelosi, in another stunning display of partisanship, rammed through a change to House rules that not only broke 230 years of precedent, it threatens to take away the voices of millions of Texans. While our communities begin opening up and people return to work, Democrats are content to sit at home and receive a paycheck while others cast votes on their behalf for the very people they were elected to serve.

“This proxy rule sets Congress on a dangerous pathway to abuse – already some Democrats have wrongfully utilized a proxy in order to attend a scheduled SpaceX launch, citing health concerns related to the pandemic to explain their absence and neglect. I was sent to House of Representatives to be a voice for every constituent in the 25th District, and I am proud to join my Republican colleagues defending the constitutional rights of all Americans.”

The lawsuit is being filed in the D.C. District Court. Representing the plaintiffs are Chuck Cooper and Joel Alicea (lead counsel), and Elliott Berke (outside counsel).
