State Rep. Biedermann Files "Personal Protection & Safety Act"

"Forcing our citizens to ask the government for permission to exercise this right reduces its status to a privilege, and then making us pay for it adds insult to injury."

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Representative Kyle Biedermann (R- Fredericksburg) filed House Bill 1238 to restore the right of every Texan who can legally own a firearm to be able to carry it to protect themselves. Self defense is a fundamental right of all humans and you should not have to rely on the government to access that right. Our state’s capital has seen a jump in crime and was even highlighted by the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Gregg Sofer who said, “Violent crime is skyrocketing in the Austin area.”

Biedermann said, "With the current political climate, personal safety is a serious concern for Texans. Talks to defund the police and rioting around the country all point to the need for Texans to have every ability to protect themselves and their families. Forcing our citizens to ask the government for permission to exercise this right reduces its status to a privilege, and then making us pay for it adds insult to injury."

More than 70 counties have declared themselves Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties. Governor Abbott recently announced the need for Texas to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary State. HB1238 falls right in line with that goal for Texas.

Many second amendment groups have already voiced their support of HB 1238. President of the National Association of Gun Rights, Dudley Brown, said, “The National Association For Gun Rights is excited to see Rep. Biedermann leading the charge to restore the right to keep and bear arms in Texas by filing Constitutional Carry.” Rachel Malone, Texas Director of Gun Owners of America, stated: "It is past time for the Texas Legislature to recognize that requiring a permit does not make us safer – it only makes victims more vulnerable. Gun Owners of America thanks Rep. Biedermann for filing Constitutional Carry, HB 1238, to repeal the permit requirement for honest gun owners. This legislation will help keep Texas strong and safe."

Other lawmakers have backed Constitutional Carry efforts in previous legislative sessions. Biedermann has also received tremendous support for this legislation with petition signatures. This petition can be found on his website at: https://kylebiedermann.com/con-carry-petition
