Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas After a busy and prolific session on the floor Representative Dan Flynn passed today six bills from his legislative package. These bills included: SB 601 which helps the Texas Veterans Commission better do its intended mission; SB 822 to aid with the administration of a grant program to support community mental health programs for veterans and their families; HB 1326 which continues the Texas Military Department; HB 1535 which continues the State Securities Board and SB 1821 to improve regulation over perpetual care cemeteries.

Lastly SB 1236 which passed unanimously through the House empowers Hunt Regional Healthcare to more competitively recruit and retain physician staff.

As the healthcare marketplace becomes increasingly complex more and more physicians are seeking employment opportunities outside of independent practice. Hunt Regional Healthcare representatives including CEO Richard Carter worked with Chairman Flynn to produce HB 1227/ SB 1236 which moves the hospital to a direct employment model. By directly employing physicians the hospital will be able to reduce costly benefits and better attract and maintain physician staff. As the only hospital in Hunt County it is imperative that Hunt Regional Healthcare has every tool available to offer the best possible quality of medical services to House District Two. The bill will now be sent to the Governor to sign after which it will become law.

SB 1236 ensures Hunt Regional Healthcare is able to successfully provide top medical and hospital care for the residents of Hunt County. The direct employment model utilized by many Texas hospitals will enable these efforts. Hunt Regional Healthcare has provided quality services to Hunt County for over 40 years and this bill helps the hospital continue this mission.
