I'll never stop fighting for our shared conservative values as long as you honor me with the privilege of serving as your Land Commissioner.
By Dawn Buckingham, Texas General Land Commissioner
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Over the past year, I’ve worked every day to make sure Texas land, resources, and taxpayer dollars are used the right way: to strengthen our schools, honor our Veterans, secure our border, protect our coast, and preserve the history that defines who we are.
Here’s a brief overview of what we've accomplished together over the last year.
RECORD FUNDING FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
By responsibly managing state land and advancing energy and infrastructure agreements, we helped generate a historic $4.8 billion from the Permanent School Fund for the 2026–27 biennium — the largest distribution in PSF history. Long-term leases tied to energy development and innovation are projected to generate more than $10 billion for Texas schools over the next 30 years, ensuring students benefit directly from the resources they own.
STANDING WITH TEXAS VETERANS
In the past year alone, Texas Veterans received hundreds of millions of dollars in assistance, including 956 home loans, 708 land loans, and expanded home improvement programs. We opened the Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home in Fort Worth, expanded Veterans cemetery capacity to serve families for the next decade, and helped push satisfaction at Texas State Veterans Cemeteries above 99% for the third straight year. Since I took office, we've helped more than 6,000 Veterans, delivering over $17 billion in benefits, and that number continues to grow.
SECURING THE BORDER
Texas continues to hold America's front line against illegal immigration. Last January, I kicked off the new year by announcing the completion of 1.5 miles of state border wall paneling on the GLO's 1,402-acre ranch along the Rio Grande. I also directed GLO staff to identify high-risk tracts vulnerable to cartel tunnel activity along the entire border. Border security requires vigilance and decisive action, and we used every lawful tool available to protect Texas communities.
PROTECTING OUR COAST AND COMMUNITIES
We completed the largest beach nourishment project in Texas, restoring more than 14 miles of coastline, while advancing additional projects from Galveston to South Padre Island. At the same time, we administered over $1 billion in disaster recovery and mitigation funding in a single year — helping more than 9,600 Texas families rebuild safe, resilient homes and strengthening infrastructure to withstand future storms.
We safeguarded the Alamo, restored the Cenotaph as a lasting symbol of sacrifice, and secured adjoining historic properties to protect the integrity of the site for generations to come. These efforts weren’t symbolic. They were concrete investments in preserving Texas history with accuracy, respect, and permanence.

I am using every tool available to serve Texas Veterans, preserve our land and history, fight transnational crime and illegal immigration, drive energy dominance, and fund our public schools.
I'll never stop fighting for our shared conservative values as long as you honor me with the privilege of serving as your Land Commissioner.
With no opponent in the Republican Primary this year, I am free to fully focus on delivering more results and beating the Democrats in November.
Thank you for standing with me!
