Rolling Back Agency Regulations

From Congress Blake Farenthold Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C.Every year federal agencies roll out thousands of new regulations that hold the weight of law and cost taxpayers millions of dollars. We have seen this time and time again with the Department of Labor Overtime Rule the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) Rule and more. This week the House will continue its goal of repealing unnecessary and burdensome federal regulations by voting and passing the Searching for and Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome (SCRUB) Act. This bill will establish a commission to conduct a review of the Code of Federal Regulations to identify rules that are overly burdensome not financially sustainable or are harmful in other ways. These rules and regulations will be flagged and recommended to Congress for repeal either immediately or at a later date. Additionally this bill will require agencies when instituting new regulations; withdraw rules flagged by the commission for repeal. This will ensure that any regulations are offset by the removal of unnecessary regulations. By reexamining and removing overly onerous and outdated regulations Congress will remove a burden that stifles entrepreneurship harms job growth and the economy and costs taxpayers millions. A Busy Week in the District This week Congress begins a long stretch of legislative work in Washington. Thats why I spent last week traveling throughout the district I represent meeting with constituents businesses and more. In addition to numerous small meetings last week I held an employee town hall atLyondellBassell in Corpus Christi. During our employee town hall we discussed many of the changes being made in the 115th Congress including: tax reform health care reform reining in government agencies and regulations and more. LyondellBasselloperates four facilities in the 27th District of Texas which employ around 650 people. I also met with members of the Wharton Chamber of Commerce and gave a legislative update at the Port of Corpus Christi Commission meeting. I updated them on how Im helping with the ports deepening and widening project aids to navigation and the Harbor Bridge. The Port of Corpus Christi is a huge economic engine for our community. I enjoyed talking with and hearing the concerns of the people I represent and answering their questions.
