Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Saturday night, during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, there was an attempted shooting in the vicinity, including shots fired, prompting an immediate and coordinated response from the U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement. One law enforcement officer was injured in the incident. We are grateful for the swift and courageous action that brought the situation under control and protected those in the area.
This moment comes in the wake of growing concern about political violence in our country, including the attempted assassination of President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. That attack was a chilling reminder of how fragile public safety can be, and how quickly chaos can erupt.
In Butler, and again Saturday night in Washington, we saw lives put at risk. And yet, we also saw something powerful: law enforcement officers who ran toward danger without hesitation, determined to protect others at all costs. We are deeply thankful for their bravery, professionalism, and sacrifice.
We are grateful that President Trump was spared in Butler. Many Americans of faith were reminded in that moment—and others like it—that God’s hand of protection remains over those who serve and lead. We do not take those moments for granted.
Most importantly, we are thankful that the situation was contained quickly and that no lives were lost. Our prayers are with the injured officer and their family, and we are praying for a full and swift recovery.
Even in moments of darkness, we continue to see the strength of those who protect our communities and the resilience of the American spirit. We remain committed to ensuring safety, preserving order, and protecting the freedoms, including free speech and civic engagement, that define our nation.
Supporting NASA's Priorities
Following the success of Artemis II, America once again demonstrated global leadership in space exploration, and we are not slowing down. Last week, my Committee, the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, held a hearing to hear from Jared Isaacman on President Donald Trump’s FY27 budget request and how we can continue investing wisely while cutting waste and staying ahead in the new space race.
Here in Texas’ 36th Congressional District, this mission hits close to home. With Johnson Space Center serving as a cornerstone of our community, supporting the men and women driving America’s space program forward remains a top priority.
During the hearing, I emphasized that as we push toward the Moon, Mars, and beyond, mission safety, crew success, and workforce stability must come first.
As NASA evaluates its workforce, we must protect hardworking Texans while ensuring taxpayer dollars are used efficiently, pursuing smart reforms that strengthen both operations and job security.
The bottom line is simple: we must keep America winning in space, support the hardworking people of Texas’ 36th District, and invest wisely in what comes next. I’ll keep fighting to ensure we do just that.
Reconciliation 2.0
The American people sent Republicans to Washington to lower costs and restore economic opportunity for every family, and Reconciliation 2.0 is how we deliver. The Republican Study Committee has released a framework for a second reconciliation bill to address the rising costs of housing, health care, and energy for hardworking Americans.
This is our opportunity to codify the rest of President Trump’s agenda and follow through on the promises we made in 2024. Walking away from this moment would be political malpractice. Reconciliation 2.0 is coming, and we’re ready to get it done.
