Sen. Campbell: Ensuring Religious Freedom & Expanding CBD Oil

State Senator Donna Campbell

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Exactly a week left in session and things are moving pretty fast. Late Friday night the house passed Senate Bill 22. Texans who oppose abortion shouldnt be forced to subsidize Planned Parenthood with their tax dollars. Abortion providers unnaturally end the lives of almost 60000 of our tiniest and most vulnerable Texans. What a great victory for life!

Expansion of Compassionate Use Program
Last week I presented House Bill 3703 in the Health and Human Services Committee to expand patient access to the Compassionate Use Program. HB 3703 allows a licensed board-certified specialist to prescribe low-THC cbd oil for patients with debilitating conditions who have been shown to benefit. The stories we heard from families with members who suffer from these conditions were very compelling. I look forward to passing this bill for those patients!

Say Goodbye to Red Light Cameras
Right light cameras will soon be a thing of the past the Senate passed House Bill 1631 outlawing red light cameras in Texas. It prohibits cities from operating photographic traffic camera systems that catch residents speeding or running red lights and issue them fines. I know we have been waiting a long time to get rid of red light cameras. The bill now heads to the Governors desk to be signed.

Protecting Religious Freedom
Texas tax dollars shouldnt be used to discriminate against anyone based on their faith. Recently the City of San Antonio discriminated against Chick-Fil-A for their charitable donations. Senate Bill 1978 ensures government can never use its power to punish those who hold religious beliefs different from their own. I was proud to join Senator Hughes on this important bill protecting religious freedom in Texas! It now heads over to the House.
