Sen. Cruz on Upcoming Big Tech Hearings: Time for Silicon Valley Oligarchs to Answer to American People

“I have long said that Big Tech poses the single greatest threat to our First Amendment rights and the future of democracy. . ."

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following Big Tech’s most recent political censorship and attempts to interfere in the 2020 election, on Wednesday, October 28, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will have the opportunity to question Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who have been called to testify before the Senate Commerce Committee.

In advance of tomorrow’s hearing, Sen Cruz said:

“I have long said that Big Tech poses the single greatest threat to our First Amendment rights and the future of democracy. After years of flagrant bias against conservatives, Twitter and Facebook crossed the Rubicon two weeks ago when they brazenly censored the New York Post’s reporting on major allegations of corruption surrounding the Democrat presidential candidate, all just days before one of the most consequential elections in our nation’s history. I immediately called out these Silicon Valley oligarchs for their obvious and transparent attempt to suppress the free press and interfere in our election and demanded they testify before Congress. This is a gross abuse of power and, at tomorrow’s Commerce Committee hearing as well as next month’s Judiciary Committee hearing, I will demand answers on behalf of the American people.”

On November 17, both Dorsey and Zuckerberg will be back to testify before Sen. Cruz and his colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee. As Sen. Cruz told The Epoch Times last week after the Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to subpoena Dorsey and Zuckerberg:

“Since Twitter and Facebook censored the New York Post’s reporting on Joe and Hunter Biden last week, I have been calling for Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg to testify in the Senate Judiciary Committee about […] why they’re trying to steal the election. These Silicon Valley billionaires are acting as Democrats’ willing henchmen, and they have more power than William Randolph Hearst at the height of yellow journalism could have only imagined. The American people deserve answers.”

As chairman of the Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on The Constitution, Sen. Cruz is leading the fight in the Senate to hold Big Tech accountable to the American people. Read more about Sen. Cruz’s fight against Big Tech bias here. Read Sen. Cruz’s recent letters to Twitter and Facebook here.
