Sen. Rand Paul releases Dr. Fauci’s extensive contacts with intel community

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., released documents Thursday alleging that former NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci had extensive ties to the U.S. intelligence community dating back nearly two decades before COVID-19.

In a timeline released by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee chairman, Paul outlines Fauci’s longstanding communications with intelligence agencies.

Paul argues that after private emails in January 2020 showed Fauci concerned about the virus’s engineered-looking features, he helped steer the “Proximal Origin” paper toward a natural-origin explanation and later shared that narrative with the Intelligence Community during Biden’s 90-day review.

The timeline says Fauci’s intelligence contacts began well before the pandemic.

Early coordination with the intelligence community predated COVID
Paul’s timeline says that in August 2003, Fauci reviewed and contributed to a National Intelligence Council paper on SARS implications for the United States and was later thanked by name when it was published.

In November 2003, he also received a CIA report, The Darker Bioweapons Future, warning that biotechnology advances could make engineered pathogens more dangerous.

That month, Fauci was also sent an NAS report on biotechnology and bioweapons for a meeting with the Center for International Security Studies, and had earlier been invited to an October 2003 Threat Reduction Advisory Committee review of the Defense Department’s chemical and biological defense program.

In 2007, Robert Joseph and Ash Carter invited Fauci to join an outside expert panel for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency to review future chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense work, with a report due in early 2008.

Fauci pushed false COVID-19 origin to the intelligence community: "Not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus”

The timeline says that on January 31, 2020, Kristian Andersen warned Fauci about SARS-CoV-2’s furin cleavage site. Fauci told him to gather scientists and, if they concluded the features looked engineered, inform the FBI and MI5.

As The Lancet has noted, the furin cleavage site on the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein set it apart from earlier coronaviruses and may have increased its ability to spread between humans.

On February 1, Fauci joined a high-level call on whether the virus looked lab-engineered, while the National Academies separately gathered experts including Andersen, Peter Daszak, and Ralph Baric.
