Senator Adam Hinojosa Calls Urgent Meeting Regarding Water Concerns

Local Leaders From Sinton and Corpus Christi Invited to Attend

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas (CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - State Senator Adam Hinojosa, District 27, has invited representatives from the City of Sinton and the City of Corpus Christi to attend a facilitated meeting on Tuesday, March 10, aimed at encouraging direct communication regarding the Evangeline Laguna groundwater project and the broader regional water supply.

“Sinton and Corpus Christi are both vital parts of the Coastal Bend Region. Our goal is to provide a venue and facilitate discussion so that both Sinton and Corpus Christi may both benefit,” Said Hinojosa. The meeting will bring together up to three (3) delegates from each city in a structured working session to discuss the proposed terms that have already been exchanged between the two municipalities and to determine whether progress can be made toward resolving the current impasse.

Senator Hinojosa emphasized that both communities are acting out of genuine responsibility to represent the interests of their constituents. “Sinton has raised legitimate concerns. Corpus Christi has offered potential solutions. The best possible way to work through them is to communicate as neighbors who both care about the outcome for everyone.”

Hinojosa also made clear that the purpose of the meeting is not to pressure anyone to abandon their positions, but to ensure that leaders have the opportunity to work through concerns directly and in good faith.

“No one is being asked to give up their rights or their positions,” Hinojosa said. “Both cities have responsibilities to their residents and ratepayers. What I am asking is that we take the time to sit down together and work through each concern face to face.”

Senator Hinojosa noted that part of the responsibility of elected leadership is ensuring that those entrusted to serve the public are making every effort to solve problems together.

“Part of being an elected leader is making sure that the people who serve the public are earnestly doing their best to work together to solve problems,” Said Senator Hinojosa. “Too often disagreements turn into battles where the only real outcome is that attorneys get paid and everyone else loses. The people we represent expect us to, at the very least, sit at the table to try and solve problems together.”

The Senator explained that productive negotiations often begin by identifying the underlying needs of each community. “If both sides can compare and contrast the needs, not simply the wants, behind their positions, they may find that they agree more than they disagree. That kind of understanding only happens through direct communication.”

Senator Adam Hinojosa’s office will facilitate the meeting and provide a neutral setting for discussion. Additional information will be provided following the meeting.
