State Sen. Menéndez Responds to Lawsuit filed by CPS Energy against ERCOT

"Texans should not be obligated to pay for the mistakes of ERCOT or the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT)."

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – (San Antonio, Texas) - CPS Energy filed a lawsuit this week, against the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to protect their customers from ERCOT’s pricing during Winter Storm Uri.  ERCOT found that CPS Energy was responsible for nearly $20 billion in charges for 5 days of energy.

Senator José Menéndez released the following statement:

"Last month, we endured a devastating winter storm, that not only cost billions of dollars but, cost the lives of our neighbors.  The Texas Senate has held three separate hearings regarding ERCOT’s handling of Winter Storm Uri, one being 25 hours long.  During the storm, ERCOT charged utility companies an egregious amount of money for energy supply.  As a result, utility companies and Texans face high electricity bills.  Texans should not be obligated to pay for the mistakes of ERCOT or the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT).  My family and our office share the frustration of CPS Energy.  ERCOT should be held responsible for taking advantage of our constituents during a time when we needed them most.  Now more than ever, we should be looking out for one another.  The Court system will be the arbitrator of justice.”
