Sen. Bettencourt Slams Harris County’s Frivolous Lawsuit Against Election Integrity

SB 1750 returns Harris County Elections back to the elected Tax Assessor-Collector & County Clerk

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – "The current Harris County appointed Elections Administrator has yet to provide a deposition in the November 2022 Elections so the public can finally know what actually happened in the 17 election contests. The fact that the first Harris County appointed Elections Administrator had to resign due to problems in the primary seems to escape the County Attorney and Commissioners Court in this lawsuit," said State Senator Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston), author of SB 1750, following today’s news conference by various Harris County officials.

"The question is, WHY?

"Dozens of polling places running out of paper ballots and machine difficulties is no longer debatable. This bill is the result of election fiascos due to the appointed Elections Administrators and other elected officials.

“This is another frivolous lawsuit by Harris County against the State of Texas!!! My SB 1750 is about performance – NOT politics!

"SB 1750 as originally filed moved the Elections Administrations back to the elected County Clerk and Tax-Assessor for the 5 largest county Elections Administrator’s in Texas, and after received testimony the bill was amended to just Harris County.

"The public will be far better served by elected officials that followed the Election Code in the past, and will do so in future elections, thus regaining confidence of the voters in the elections process and that’s what SB 1750 is all about,” concluded Bettencourt.
