Sens. Cruz Cornyn Praise Committee Approval of Ada Brown to be Federal Judge in Texas

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) today released the following statements after the Senate Judiciary Committee approved Ada Brown to fillĀ a judicial vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Dallas:

I am pleased the Senate Judiciary Committee voted today to advance Ada Browns nomination to be U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas to the floor" Sen. Cruz said. Senator Cornyn and I recommended Justice Browns nomination to President Trump because of her dedicated years of public service as a prosecutor a trial advocate a trial court judge and an appellate court justice that will serve the Northern District of Texas well. The full Senate should quickly take up and confirm her nomination so that Justice Brown may continue her public service in a new role as District Judge for the Northern District of Texas."

Years of experience on the state bench and as a prosecutor have prepared Ada for service at the federal level" said Sen. Cornyn. I am grateful to my colleagues on the Judiciary Committee for voting to advance her nomination and I look forward to confirming this well-qualified Texan in the Senate soon."

Sens. Cruz and Cornyn recommended this nominee to President Trump following an extensive review and interview process of the candidate pool by the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC). Sens. Cruz and Cornyn established the FJEC a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys in Texas to help identify the most qualified candidates to fill judicial vacancies. The panel reviewed applications interviewed candidates and made recommendations to the Senators who interviewed individuals before making their recommendations to the President.

Ada E. Brown of Texas is a Justice on Texas Fifth Court of Appeals.  Before joining the appellate court in 2013 Justice Brown practiced at McKool Smith in Dallas Texas where her practice focused on commercial litigation and patent infringement matters.  She also served as a judge on the Dallas County Criminal Court and as a prosecutor in the Dallas County District Attorneys Office.  Justice Brown has served as Commissioner for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education and as Commissioner for the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Justice Brown received her J.D. from Emory University School of Law and her B.A. manga cum laude from Spelman College.
