Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON DC - U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions chairman of the House Committee on Rules today released the following statement after voting for a measure to provide a 6-month delay in the effective date of a rule of the Department of Labor relating to income thresholds for determining overtime pay for executive administrative professional outside sales and computer employees:
I have heard from my constituents in Texas and from Americans across our great nation that this overtime rule will cause serious problems for business owners and employees. This rule is expected to impact more than 4 million workers in the first year of implementation and employers simply need more time to comply. Small business owners nonprofits colleges and universities are already buried in work and lacking resources and the hours spent complying with these onerous regulations is precious time spent away from ones family. Aside from the time it takes to comply employers will be forced to cut full-time employees hours pay them less and hire more part-time staff in order to meet the standards of this rule. This rule is standing in the way of businesses schools and nonprofits growing and flourishing and I proudly voted to delay its implementation.
