Several Central Texas Schools Lead Holiday Food Drives to Support Local Families in Need

“Through service and giving, our students learn that academic excellence goes hand in hand with civic responsibility and kindness.”

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas Students across Harmony Public Schools Central Texas are giving back this holiday season through a series of campus-wide food drives and fundraisers to support local food banks and families in need, reflecting the district’s strong commitment to character education and community service.

At Harmony Science Academy-Leander, the Student Council is leading a food drive to benefit Operation Liberty Hill, a local food bank that provides essential resources to families in the Leander area. Students, staff, and families are encouraged to donate nonperishable items throughout December to help restock pantry shelves during one of the busiest times of the year.

Students at Harmony Science Academy-Cedar Park are turning generosity into friendly competition through a Coin War organized by the National Elementary Honor Society. Classes are teaming up to collect coins, with the winning team earning a prize. All funds raised will be used to purchase food for the Central Texas Food Bank, helping fight hunger throughout the Austin community.

At Harmony School of Science, students and staff are launching Harmony Gives Back, a fundraiser dedicated to collecting food and resources for neighborhood families in need. The effort encourages students to demonstrate compassion, leadership, and empathy, which are core values of Harmony’s character education program.

Meanwhile, Harmony School of Excellence continues its ongoing effort to serve the community through its Tiger Pantry, which provides food and essential items to families in need throughout the school year. The pantry, supported by donations from students, families, and staff, ensures year-round support for those facing food insecurity.

“These student-led efforts reflect the heart of Harmony’s mission, educating not only the mind but also the character,” said Harmony Public Schools-Central Texas Director of Communications and Marketing, Tracie Seed. “Through service and giving, our students learn that academic excellence goes hand in hand with civic responsibility and kindness.”

The food drives and fundraisers will continue throughout December, and community members are invited to participate by donating food or contributing to the efforts at their local Harmony campus.
