Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas   I want to share with you my recent announcement of a major initiative that will help protect Texas children. Yesterday I launched a faith-based initiative working with local churches across the state to help recruit potential foster and adoptive parents. Many Texas state leaders have answered the call to adopt and help our foster kids in need. I hope you and your family will consider doing the same. I also joined Governor Abbott and Speaker Straus in asking the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Commissioner to create an emergency plan to immediately relieve the backlog of children who need CPS intervention. I also called on Senate Finance Committee Chair Jane Nelson to identify the best allocation and application of the DFPS plan to address this problem. Failing our children is simply unacceptable. We must do everything we can to stop this now. Im asking you and your church congregation to open your heart and your home to a foster child in need. Its a serious issue that affects our most vulnerable populations. November is National Adoption Month and its purpose is to raise awareness of foster kids in need of a forever home. On November 2 DFPS will host a summit at the Texas Capitol for faith leaders from across the state to gather and discuss the importance of this faith-based community initiative.
