Since 1979, a dark veil of terror has reigned over the Middle East. The Iranian regime is responsible for the deaths of thousands of U.S. servicemembers all over the region in Iraq, Lebanon, and the Gulf. In addition, it has plotted to kill the president of the United States and members of his cabinet.
That's why I commend President Trump for being the first president to confront Iran on its path to a nuclear bomb. A reckoning with this regime was unavoidable. Our military was meeting its objective. Then, we paused for negotiations.
While I appreciate the administration’s efforts to give peace a chance, I have never been sanguine about this regime. At last week's House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, I spoke with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz about how we must unleash the power of the U.S. military to bring an end to this conflict and ensure Iran can no longer wreak havoc around the globe.
