State Rep. Phil King: Much More was Accomplished than Just a Conservative State Budget

AUSTIN Texas (Texas Insider Report) The 86th Texas Legislature adjourned Monday afternoon. Much was accomplished with a conservative budget (below) which has increased only 1.5 in total State General Revenue from last biennium when adjusted for population and inflation.

There is far too much to talk about in just one writing but I will be speaking across the district as soon as I return to share the details. Im eager to get back to the district and share the many accomplishments.

Here are some highlights:

  • Ended forced Property Annexation Statewide
  • $5.0 billion in School Property Tax Relief
  • Invested $6.5 billion more in Classrooms including
    • $2 billion for increased Teacher Compensation and
    • A 47 Reduction in Robin Hood Recapture
  • Incentivized Rural Broadband Expansion to promote Economic Development
  • Reduced & Reformed STAAR Testing to prevent teaching to the test and transition to Diagnostic Testing rather than a Snapshot on one day
  • Created a Constitutional Prohibition to block future legislatures from creating a State Income Tax (requires voter approval)
  • Ended Taxpayer Funding to Abortion Providers
  • Preserved Religious Liberties by prohibiting government from Denying Contracts due to a Businesss Contributions to Religious Organization

This and much more was accomplished with a conservative budget (below) which has increased only 1.5 in total State General Revenue from last biennium when adjusted for population and inflation.

  • Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief
  • Protection of Campus Free Speech
  • Supporting Law Enforcement
  • Standing up for 2nd Amendment Rights
  • Dramatically increasing Transparency in Taxation
  • Securing Teacher Retirement
  • Funding for School Safety and
  • Banning Red-Light Cameras
