Stopping Liberals Political Advocacy Settlement Slush Funds

Texas Insider Report: WASHNGTON  D.C.    The U.S. House of Representatives has passed H.R. 5063 the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding passage of the bill:
The Department of Justice and other federal agencies have been circumventing Congress budget authority by requiring defendants to donate money to third-party special interest groups as part of the settlement process. These settlement slush funds are being sent to political advocacy organizations to fund the Obama administrations liberal agenda. Not only is this clearly an abuse of power it is also unconstitutional. With todays bipartisan passage of the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act we put an end to this executive overreach and preserve Congress power of the purse. Settlement agreements from the federal government should be directed to victims and to the U.S. Treasury; they should not go to third-party special interest groups to fuel political agendas. This bill is a component of the House Republicans A Better Way agenda and provides a great first step to curbing the administrations efforts to expand the power of the Executive Branch.
Congressman Bill Flores represents the 17th District of Texas and is an entrepreneur former energy executive Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC)  and member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
