Students to Compete at 2019 Texas Science and Engineering Fair in College Station

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas More than 1400 Texas middle and high school students will present their outstanding projects at the 2019 Texas Science and Engineering Fair (TXSEF). The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) continues its commitment to science technology engineering and math (STEM) education and the success of tomorrows workforce by co-sponsoring the event for the 18th consecutive year with ExxonMobil. TWC anticipates nearly 4000 students parents school officials and industry representatives will attend the fair at Texas A&M University in College Station Texas on March 29-30 2019.

TWC is proud to join ExxonMobil and Texas A&M University in providing a setting where extraordinary students can showcase their innovative work in STEM" said TWC Chair and Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. I want to congratulate and commend all the students participating in the 2019 Annual Texas Science and Engineering Fair. The partnerships that create these opportunities are how Texas will remain a leader in STEM and strengthen our economic development by preparing our future leaders to meet the challenges of the 21st Century."

Hosted by Texas A&M University (TAMU) the science fair begins with check-in on Friday March 29 and culminates with judging and an awards presentation on Saturday March 30 at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station. Alie Ward Daytime Emmy Award-winning science correspondent for CBSs The Henry Ford Innovation Nation with Mo Rocca" and host of the CWs Did I mention Invention?" will deliver the keynote address at the awards presentation.

The Texas State Science and Engineering Fair allows us to view the work of our future scientists and mathematicians" said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez. In an increasingly competitive job market individuals with applied skills in STEMdisciplines are highly coveted. It is important that we continue to support the next generation of the Texas labor force by providing them with opportunities like this fair."

The Texas Science and Engineering Fair is officially sanctioned by the Society for Science & the Public the annual host of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF). Awards will be presented to students in 22 project categories for between life and physical sciences.

The Texas Science and Engineering Fair is a unique opportunity for students to explore the STEM fields by following their curiosities and seeking knowledge" said Commissioner Representing the Public Robert D. Thomas. This prestigious event provides such an amazing platform for young scholars to demonstrate their tremendous talents and their commitment to improving the world around them through innovation."

Winners from the science fairs high school division will qualify for the Intel ISEF competition in Phoenix Arizona in May 2019 and will also earn a spot at the Texas Governors Science and Technology Champions Academy a weeklong residential summer camp also sponsored by TWC which will be held this summer at Southern Methodist University.
